Why I became a Game Designer
Marcus Steele
G‘day I’m Marcus and I love video games. As a young child I didn’t really have video games in my house as mum couldn’t afford it and she felt like many mothers at the time that video games were bad for kids.
Around 8 years old I was a pretty outgoing kid in a weird kind of way. Like a lot of weird kids I was bullied at school and one bullying session was so bad that, it scarred me, so bad in fact it kinda forced me into becoming an introvert and for a few years after I felt alone, sad and empty. Mum could see that I was struggling a bit so introduced me to an old Gameboy and then I began to use my father’s PS1 on an occasion.
Once mum was able to afford a PS2, I then started playing Jak and Daxter. As I moved through the series I began to laugh and smile again. I had something to look forward to. I then decided what I wanted to be when I grew up was to be a Game Designer. Be part of making something that would make other people laugh and smile.
